Worried about legal costs? Let's talk about your options.

We understand that the cost of legal advice is a key concern, especially when you're already dealing with a stressful employment issue. That’s why we’re committed to being transparent about fees and helping you explore the most suitable funding options for your situation.

At Porter Dodson, we’ll discuss your options with you from the outset and keep you informed every step of the way.

Funding options we may explore with you

1. Paying our fees directly

You can choose to pay for our services as you go. In some cases, we may be able to offer a fixed fee for specific pieces of work, giving you certainty and control over your legal spend.

2. Legal expenses insurance

You may already have legal cover through:

  • Your home insurance policy
  • A bank account or credit card benefit
  • A professional membership or trade body

If you do, you have the right to choose your own solicitor, even if your insurer suggests otherwise. We can help you check whether you’re covered.

3. Trade union or employer-linked support

If you're a member of a trade union or part of a professional scheme, you may be entitled to legal support or funding. We can help you understand what’s available and how to access it.

4. No win no fee / damage-based agreements

In some cases, we may be able to offer a no win, no fee or damages-based agreement, where our fees are only payable if your claim is successful.

Please note:

  • We charge a case review fee to assess whether this option is suitable
  • Your claim must be strong and of sufficient value to qualify

5. Legal aid

Legal aid is not available through Porter Dodson, but you can find more information on eligibility and providers via the Gov.uk website.

Can I recover my legal fees?

In many cases - particularly with settlement agreements - we’ll seek to recover some or all of your legal fees from your employer as part of the negotiation.

We’re here to help you access the legal advice you need, in a way that works for you.

Philip

I recently had a very positive experience working with Abigail at Porter Dodson on a legal matter. Abigail was approachable, clear, and easy to communicate with throughout the process. She provided concise advice and demonstrated strong expertise in her field. Her responsiveness was exceptional - she answered queries promptly and was consistently available whenever I required support. From start to finish, the entire process was seamless. I would not hesitate to recommend Abigail to anyone seeking legal assistance.

Employment Client

I found Abigail very easy to talk to and to understand. Abigail is a very pleasant lady and so knowledgeable. From the moment I appointed Abigail, she got in touch with me, so she was definitely there when I needed her. It was easy to meet her on line rather than having to drive to Taunton. Abigail was always very clear and concise and an excellent solicitor. I am so glad I chose her and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone or to use her again if I needed to.
