The Employment Rights Act is bringing in sweeping reforms to many areas of employment law.
Perhaps one of the most complex and, importantly, one that will undoubtedly have a huge impact on employers, is the proposed reform to zero hours working.
The ERA will be putting obligations on employers to:
-
offer guaranteed hours in certain circumstances;
-
ensure they give zero (or low) hours staff reasonable notice of shifts; and
-
pay those staff members some form of compensation where shifts are curtailed, or cancelled at short notice.
The devil is in the detail, however, which will come in the form of regulations. Before those regulations are implemented, the government is seeking your views on the practical details of implementing these rights.
This is an opportunity for employers to have their say and help influence the shape of the regulations and so we encourage you to engage with and respond to the consultations.
The consultation is now live and shall remain open until 25 August 2026:
