Lucy Brown - Client Case Studies

Author: Lucy Brown

Category: Family & Childcare

Lucy’s recent work includes:

  • Representing a wife in extremely protracted financial proceedings and securing an award for her that enabled her to re-house mortgage free and continue to receive annual income of at least £50,000 for the next twenty years, protected against the risk of a variation application.

  • Representing a father to secure an equal shared care arrangement, despite the mother attempting to make (unproven) fact-finding allegations against him, and subsequently representing the same father to resolve a cohabitation dispute in which the parties had made unequal contributions to the purchase price of the family home, but his former partner sought 50% of net equity.  By way of a private mediation, an outcome was secured whereby the father received 66.6% of the equity, representing his original contribution and protecting monies contributed by his family.

  • Representing a wife in financial proceedings, where the husband (representing himself) claimed that an agreement had been previously reached so there should be no further adjustment, even though to conclude on that basis would have left the wife with less than 50% of the matrimonial assets, despite their young child still living primarily with her.  Achieved an outcome whereby the wife will receive an additional substantial lump sum, together with pension sharing provision to improve her circumstances on retirement.

  • Representing a husband in financial proceedings after a short marriage with no children.  Securing an agreement broadly in line with the Supreme Court’s July 2025 judgment in Standish whereby husband’s non-matrimonial assets were preserved and there was a very slight departure from equality in wife’s favour on the matrimonial assets, largely to recognise the wife’s non-UK residential status, which was said to have an impact on her ability to secure well-paying employment.
