I began my legal career as a private client solicitor at a City firm. In 1990, I returned to Dorset and Somerset and then joined Porter Dodson in April 2017.
I specialise in retirement planning for individuals and in agricultural succession planning. Much of my advice involves arranging clients’ legal, property and financial affairs to save tax (Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax) and to ensure certainty and fairness for them, their families and businesses. I work closely with colleagues and fellow professionals, such as accountants and financial advisers.
I am from a local farming family and am a member of the Country Land and Business Association and the Agricultural Law Association. I am also a member of Solicitors for the Elderly and hold their Older Client Care in Practice award.
Very pleased with the work carried out- did exactly what we asked for and offered further advice.
Professional, polite and easy to deal with. Knowledgeable and helpful.
Mr Merlin Lewis has treated me with courtesy and patience at all times and has made the whole process as pleasant as possible for me. I wish him well.
The service we have received has been first class.
Merlin Lewis took our instructions and developed a very neat and simple set of solutions.
I found Merlin Lewis very helpful and professional. He listened and understood what I said and acted promptly and efficiently. It was a pleasure to deal with him and his colleague Lynn Zolfaghari.
The service we received from Merlin Lewis and staff at Porter Dodson was exemplary. Treatment of clients is very professional and friendly. Thank you for your superb service.
From the moment I stepped into the office, I was met with kindness and courtesy. Merlin was patient and explained everything to me in everyday English as I was unable to understand some of the legal terms.
