Well good evening everyone and welcome to this two-minute update from the Porter Dodson Employment Team.

I’ve just hotfooted it home to hear about the end of Covid restrictions for most sectors. It is with a sense of some trepidation that I speak to you now because I feel that a lot of employers will feel that, as a result, things can get back to normal and they are effectively out of the woods.

Without sounding too much like a doom merchant, I have to say that I don't think it's going to be as straightforward as this, not least because you are going to have opposing, potentially opposing, sectors of the workforce, some of whom will still be very worried, particularly if they are clinically vulnerable and those who want to throw off the shackles of a very long Covid restrictive period to enable them to move forward with confidence and without having to worry about all of the issues which may ensue.

I therefore consider that there is likely to be a tension within the workforce, which will need to be properly dealt with, and that has to be very carefully dealt with in view of the fact that you might unwittingly enter into the field of discrimination, health and safety legislation and detriment.
